VAT Information Exchange System (VIES)

The main objective of the Phare 2002 Project 0203.13 "VAT Information Exchange System" is to develop and implement an information system for exchange of VAT information between the Republic of Bulgaria and the EU member states.
VIES has been specifically developed by Vereo for the National Revenue Agency (NRA). It comprises 11 separate types of applications united in a single self-contained and integrated information system with unique architecture. Modern technological solutions have been used in its development, such as: Oracle Database Server 10g, Oracle Internet Application Server 10g, J2EE, Struts framework, Web interface, PKI, SWING GUI, Web Services, XML, XSL, XSLT, etc. Unique synchronizing mechanisms for managing communications of the Bulgarian VIES system within the European Commission network have been tailor-developed for the system, which help the simultaneous support and maintenance of multiple communication channels with the VIES systems of other EU member states.
The following software technologies and tools have been used to build the system: UML, J2EE(EJB, JSP, Servlets), Struts framework, XML, XSLT, BouncyCastle framework, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Log4J, JUnit framework, Oracle JDeveloper 10g, TOAD.
